Nillumbik councillors angry about fire services levy

I can’t help but wonder if the fire levy is a bit crazy. Before it was unfair because those who weren’t insured didn’t pay. Now those who own properties pay. I’m pretty sure the fire brigade attends fires other than properties plus a range of community services they provide. This is an unfair levy and should be taken out of general taxes where everyone pays that can afford to pay. I’d like to know how much was being collected and how much will be collected with the new scheme. Schemes like this only seem to change because there is more money being collected in taxes. I suppose individually at least we can check the fire levy paid via insurance versus fire levy pad via rates to see if we will be better or worse off. As always there will be winners and losers.
